Square Enix officially released the highly anticipated collaboration between Final Fantasy VII: Eternal Crisis and NieR: Automata last November 27. The event, dubbed "YoRHa No.2 Type B Intercept – Encounter in the City Ruins," unites two favorite RPG franchises through the combination of iconic characters, special rewards, and all-new gameplay challenges.

First and foremost, the visual highlights are pretty hard to miss. Here come the NieR-themed makeovers: Tifa Lockhart and Cloud Strife, along with Yuffie Kisaragi, are the stuff of fans' dreams. Tifa gets a 2B-style black battle outfit, designed by NieR original artist D.K., serving up perfection between her signature toughness and 2B's sleek android aesthetic. Cloud dons an outfit inspired by 9S, complete with mechanical accents, while Yuffie wears an ensemble themed around 10H with a unique weapon skin titled "Fatum Ex Machina." These outfits aren't just for show; they fit right into the game's combat with thematic skill effects that feel true to both series.

The headliner of the collaboration is, of course, the new boss battle featuring 2B herself. Players go up against the iconic YoRHa android in a frenetic battle that's highly faithful to her style of combat from NieR: Automata. Completion of event missions and challenges on panels unlocks the "Whirling Ravager" enemy skill, a great addition to any team's tool kit that adds some fresh strategy to battles. It's actually pretty fun to go up against such an adored character, and it feels like a proper crossover rather than just a reskin.

Square Enix is pulling out all the stops with player-friendly rewards. During the event, log in daily to get up to 3,000 Blue Crystals and free 10-pull draws, a whopping 340 free pulls total if you keep up. There's also a daily free crossover weapon draw and a medal exchange system for extra gear. Clearing missions nets you a "Glory to Mankind" home wallpaper and upgrade materials, so even casual players can walk away with meaningful rewards.
