With the efforts of the Super-Z Team, peace was restored once more to Luminous City, but not everything was as it seemed. Suddenly, culverts of a mysterious origin sprouted up around town, and something much more sinister was in motion. Enter Ansel, an enigmatic girl with a hidden agenda, and Hoopa, the mischievous Mythical Pokémon whose powers are about to set events into motion. When Hoopa unleashes its incredible abilities, the culverts transform into portals leading to an alternate dimension.
The protagonist and their companions step into this new world—Otherworld Luminous—a parallel version of Luminous City. But while the name might sound similar, Otherworld Luminous is a far cry from the tranquil city they once knew. It's now home to a variety of powerful Pokémon, many of them in evolutions never before seen by trainers. This new dimension presents both a thrilling mystery and a fresh set of challenges.
Roster additions are where Hyperdimension Surge really shines, featuring never-before-seen Mega Evolutions. Trainers will be able to catch Mega Chimecho-who creates devastating sound-wave attacks with its six floating copies-and Mega Baxcalibur, which now wields a massive ice blade that can smash through nearly any defense. It also adds in two different Mega forms for Raichu, Mega Raichu X-which focuses on physical attacks-and Mega Raichu Y, which specializes in special moves. Both of these require different Mega Stones, which can be found within the story. The Kalos starters Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie finally get their Mega Evolutions, which are able to be obtained through ranked battles in the Z-A Battle Club.
