This tutorial will show you how to open Samin's request and where to head in the Scarlet Forest so that you can catch that rainbow-hued little bird for the Dapperwing Monster Hunter Wilds Research Report.
Unlocking Samin's Research Report
After you complete your task of acquiring a Dapperwing, you will have to complete another quest, Dareel's Research Report. You must complete this before Samin's Research Report will become available. Complete the quest of Dareel, then go to the Windward Plains Base Camp. Samin is seated across from Dareel. Speak to him to activate this second vital research task.Samin will give you the task to track down and capture a Dapperwing. While this sounds simple enough, there is one complication: Dapperwings are small, timid birds that can easily blend in.
What is a Dapperwing?
A Dapperwing is a diminutive bird that can be easily identified by its squarish head and long tail. But don't let its size fool you – this tiny bird can be rather troublesome to find, mostly due to its camouflage capabilities. The Dapperwing also changes its feathers depending on the season. In the Fallow season, its feathers are green so that it may blend in with the trees. But during the Plenty season, the bird gets much brighter, with colors that almost create the illusion of a rainbow. This makes it much easier to spot the Dapperwing, especially from behind.Samin has a helpful tip before heading out: It is much easier to find Dapperwings in Plenty conditions, especially during the day when the bright colors of their feathers stand out more.
Where to Find Dapperwings in the Scarlet Forest
Now that you know that, it's time to head to the Scarlet Forest. You will have to start looking from Area 2 in the forest, and that will be on your right-hand side as you enter through the base camp. Turn north when exiting the base camp, and proceed towards a tree trunk that is lying across a small area of water. You will recognize that you are there when you spot a tree in the vicinity – that is where you can find the Dapperwings most often.Take a good look, as the Dapperwings both perch on the branches of the trees and flit over the location. You might need to move slightly to get into a good spot, but observe the branches for movement. They will not be that hard to notice once you have observed where they are.
Where to Find a Dapperwing: The Quick Route
If you do not mind sloging through the arduous search and heading straight to the capture, there is a guaranteed place in the Scarlet Forest which seems to be a preferred roosting site of the Dapperwing Monster Hunter Wilds.Start at the Base Camp: Head north of the Scarlet Forest Base Camp.
Look for the Trunk: You will be soon passing under a huge, ruined tree trunk.
The Tree and the Water: Continue forward until you get close to where a fragment of that broken trunk floats in the water.
Identify the Perch: Look up toward the tree immediately in front of you in this section. You will see Dapperwings here, or at least more often, perched on the surrounding branches.
Spot one, and use your capture net promptly. They will fly off if you charge up on them. Capture that rainbow creature, go back to Samin at Windward Plains Base Camp, and turn in the research for your reward. Good luck, Hunter!
